SACP denies receiving kickbacks from NSFAS service provider

Fired NSFAS service providers claims it paid R1million to the SACP in kickbacks when it did not have money to hold its elective conference

The South African Communist Party(SACP) has rubbished of receiving any kickbacks as as claimed in a damning 51 page report by the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA).

In its latest of ongoing investigations of corruption taking place at the National Students Financial Aid Scheme, OUTA has released leaked voice recordings of meetings between a representative of Coinvest (a NSFAS direct payment service provider), NSFAS board chairperson Ernest Khosa and two other individuals.

In one of the meeting the Coinvest representatives claims that Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande, Khosa as well as the SACP were given kickbacks in order to secure tenders.

He claims the SACP was given R1million for its conference.

“I gave him a million rands for the Communist Party. Just imagine. For the conference. When there was nothing. I donated with the very same company that created T-shirts last year together with the bags” the representative claims.

SACP AGAINST CORRUPTION

Nzimande served as the SACP’s secretary-general for 24 years before being appointed chairperson in 2022.

Speaking during Joe Slovo Commemoration Day at the Avalon Cemetery in Soweto, secretary-general Solly Mapaila denied receiving kickback, ands says that their organisation is against corruption.

“Contrary to the allegations spread by OUTA without hearing the other side of the story, the SACP has never approached any person to seek illegitimate funding. It is unacceptable for anyone to try to co-opt the name of the SACP in their gossip or shenanigans. We remain steadfast on our in our stance against corruption.
