South African Airways (SAA) resumes flights to Perth, Australia. The eagerly anticipated revival brings exciting travel prospects.

South African Airways (SAA) has announced the eagerly awaited return of its flights to Perth, Australia, with the inaugural flight from Johannesburg scheduled for 28 April 2024. Bookings for the route have opened on Monday, 8 January 2024.

CEO of SAA, Professor John Lamola, expressed excitement about the development, stating that the move aligns with the airline’s strategic plans to enhance profitability by leveraging SAA’s unique capabilities as a national carrier with wide-body aircraft, providing South Africa with vital long-haul intercontinental air connectivity.

This marks the second interoceanic route to be reopened within six months, following the successful launch of the Sao Paulo, Brazil route on 31 October 2023.

Seamless Perth to Sao Paulo travel package revealed

The new Southern hemisphere travel package now enables seamless journeys from Perth to Sao Paulo through Johannesburg.

As a member of the Star Alliance, SAA aims to enhance travel into and out of Australia for customers of the 25 co-member airlines.

Lamola emphasised the significance of the Perth route, stating, “Besides the global interconnectivity potential of this route, Perth has long been a favored destination for South African and Australian travelers, with approximately 80% of our target market visiting family and friends.”

The flights, operating three times a week, depart from OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, and arrive at Perth International Airport.

SAA launches route with Airbus A340-300

SAA will utilise an Airbus A340-300 during the launch phase of the route, known for its spacious, comfortable, and reliable features, with a total seat capacity of 253 (38 business class seats and 215 economy seats).

The Perth route launch also presents opportunities for SAA Voyager frequent flyers to earn and redeem air miles, contributing to the airline’s vision of expanding its footprint to over 20 destinations this year. The strategic move reflects SAA’s commitment to becoming a leader in the global aviation sector.
