Robbery suspect killed in shootout in Durban

At least one dangerous criminal has been eliminated after the killing of a suspect and the arrest of others following a shootout in Durban.

At least one dangerous criminal has been eliminated after the killing of a suspect and the arrest of others following a shootout in Durban on Wednesday, 15 February.

ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT GUNNED DOWN BY POLICE IN DURBAN

Tyron Powell, the CEO of Marshall Security reported that his team were alerted to an armed robbery on Prince Mhlangana Road followed by a shootout, where one suspect was shot dead and two others arrested.


“At approximately 10h00, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre was alerted to an armed robbery that had occurred on Prince Mhlangana Road in the Avoca area where three suspects, one armed with a firearm, robbed a pedestrian of their phone,” he confirmed.


“Multiple Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Operations Team were dispatched to the scene to search for the wanted men.”

He added that the South African Police Services were immediately notified of the robbery that had occurred.

“A few moments later one of our Armed Response Officers noticed members of the Greenwood Park SAPS chasing the wanted suspects on North Coast Road and immediately assisted. The criminals then fled into a nearby dense bush and the SAPS called the Durban K9 Unit for assistance after securing the area to prevent the suspects from exiting together with the assistance of the Provincial Vehicle and Trio Task Team.
A short while later the Durban K9 Unit arrived on the scene and entered the bush in search of the suspects. One suspect exited the bush and attempted to flee by getting into a taxi. Our quick-thinking Armed Response Officer immediately reacted and apprehended the suspect,” Powell explained.

MARSHALL SECURITY HELP IN NABBING THE REMAINING CRIMINALS AFTER SHOOTOUT

He went on to explain that the Durban K9 Unit continued to search for the other two men and during the search one suspect was shot dead and the third criminal was arrested by the Durban K9 Unit.

“A replica firearm was recovered on scene. All necessary authorities were on the scene and will be investigating further. Well done to all team members involved,” Powell concluded.
