POLICE SAY LAWAK WAS STABBED TO DEATH

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said Lawak was attacked at approximately 18:15 on Wednesday in Scottsdene, Kraaifontein.

The police spokesperson said a 28-year-old woman sustained multiple stab wounds to the body and was declared dead by medical personnel.

“The motive for the attack is domestic violence,” said Swartbooi. “A 29-year-old man has since been arrested.”

It is believed that Lawak’s alleged killer is her ex-boyfriend. “Justice for Rhucian-Kay Lawak,” a Facebook group started to honour the memory, support the family and find justice for the young mother currently has more than 1800 members – the majority of which joined the group shortly after it was started.

“Hi all. Please note that no photos of the ex should be put on this group as we don’t want it to influence the case at hand,” wrote family friend Lindie Nel in a post on the group.

“As soon as we are allowed we will make his face public but for now if a photo is post I will remove it. Believe me when I say we all want to post his picture everywhere but for now, we need to focus that justice will be done. Thank you all for your support. She was surely loved.”

Lawak was employed at a gym in Durbanville and she is survived by her two-year-old daughter. The Kraaifontein police are investigating a case of murder.
