A serious war of words has erupted between Cyril Ramaphosa and the ANC Integrity Commission, after the president objected to a report filed by the investigative body. The president says he’s been made to look like a delinquent by a publication which raised ‘concerns’ about his behaviour.
It’s understood that a lack of communication between Ramaphosa and the IC has soured relations. Cyril claims he has been nothing but cooperative, but that differs from the Commission’s version of events. In a letter that began circulating online over the weekend, SA’s head of state made his feelings known about this uncomfortable situation.
In the recently published response, Cyril Ramaphosa has denied that he was ‘trying to avoid’ appearing before the Integrity Commission. He also states that his request to have representation in the meeting was ‘honest and above board’:
“My intention in making the proposal was by no means aimed at avoiding my appearance before the Integrity Commission. In fact, the opposite is true. It is unfortunate that the Commission’s report seems to create an impression that I sought to avoid an appearance before the IC.”
“What concerns me is the impression that is created which would appear like I was delinquent in the manner which I dealt with the matter of my appearance before the Commission… I hope that my submissions are taken into account, and the report reconsidered.”
“I am also saddened by the characterisation of my request to have a member of the ANC in good standing assist me in my engagements with the Commission as anything other than an honest request to have administrative support of my own.”
