You know criminals are the “real deal” when they attempt to steal from the military, not only attempt but get it right. At a military base near Khayelitsha in Cape Town, five armed robbers managed to overpower five soldiers on Friday. The robbers managed to make off with 6 R4 rifles and multiple magazines.
So how did these brazen criminals pull it off? They reportedly forced the guards into the base and then overpowered another five men in the armoury room, they even managed to force the guards to open a weapons safe.
Brigadier-General Mafi Mgobozi (SANDF spokesperson) spoke to IOL to confirm the robbery and comment on the investigation.
“We can confirm that the incident happened and an investigation has been launched. Until we get a preliminary investigation report we can’t say for certain what really happened.”
EWN reports that as of Saturday morning no suspects have been arrested by SAPS officials in connection with the robbery.
Once the news started spreading on social media, let’s just say South Africans were rather amazed by it all, and not in a good way…
Senior radio host Redi Tlabi summed up our feelings perfectly: “Ja ne”

Aside from being furious with the leadership, other South Africans pointed out that another SANDF base was also targeted in the last year, something fishy going on?

We have a 2nd robbery of arms at the military base in a space a year. 1st in PTA, 2nd in Khayelitsha. This isn't just robbery

Even new Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula was in the firing line.
