Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu afforded provincial funeral by Presidency

Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu will be interred in a private ceremony and her memorial service will take place on Friday, 07 May 2021.

Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu will interred at the crack of down in a private burial at the KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace on Friday, May 7. The KwaZulu-Natal Premier’s office confirmed on Tuesday.

The Regent of the Zulu Nation, passed away at the Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg on Thursday 29 April after she was rushed to hospital the very same week.

SPECIAL FUNERAL FOR QUEEN MANTFOMBI DLAMINI-ZULU

KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Sihle Zikalala said on Tuesday that he has appointed four MEC’s to to work with the Royal Family to facilitate a fitting farewell for Her Majesty the Queen. The MEC’s include MEC for Transport and Community Safety – Peggy Nkonyeni, MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development – Bongi Sithole-Moloi, MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs – Sipho Hlomuka and MEC for Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation, Hlengiwe Mavimbela.

“The mortal remains of the Zulu Regent, Her Majesty the Queen, will depart Johannesburg and arrive at KwaNongoma on Wednesday the 5th May 2021. The funeral/ memorial service will take place on Friday, 07 May 2021.

“The South African Police Service will provide ceremonial elements, while the National Flag will be half-masted throughout the Province of KwaZulu-Natal on the day of the funeral. Funeral proceedings will comply with all the COVID-19 lockdown regulations.”

ZIKALALA WEIGHS IN ON SUCCESSION BATTLE

Zikalala said that the Zulu Royal Family should resolve its issues internally. This, after different factions within the Royal Family are holding impromptu press briefings and leaking audio recordings from previously held family meetings.

“It pains us to see issues of the Royal Household being discussed in a manner in which it is happening as people who have the responsibility to sit together and discuss. Our call and plea are to respect Her Majesty as His majesty was emphatic on solving problems through discussions. Our plea is that the royal house must sit together and discuss the matter internally.”

Zikalala also confirmed that his office has received applications for an interdict to stop the execution of King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu’s testament, filed by Queen Zibongile Zulu and her daughters Princess Ntandoyenkosi and Princess Ntombizosuthu.
