After a brief hiatus due to the Nedbank Cup, the PSL makes a return this coming weekend with the first fixture kicking off on Friday.
Mamelodi Sundowns sit pretty at the summit of the table and, despite not being in action this weekend, will still hang on to top spot regardless of the outcome of the scheduled fixtures – thanks to the five-point advantage they have over their closest competitors, Orlando Pirates.
Giving the Brazilians another advantage is the game in hand they have over the Buccaneers, meaning they stand a chance of stretching even further ahead of the chasing pack should they avoid dropping points.
One of the fixtures previously scheduled for the weekend, the clash between Bloemfontein Celtic and Polokwane City, has been postponed due to the tragic passing of Rise and Shine defender Mogau Tsehla who was killed in a car accident on Monday night.
The action kicks off with the KZN derby between Maritzburg United and AmaZulu at the Harry Gwala Stadium. The visitors will look to continue their steady climb up the table which has seen them escape the relegation zone as they now find themselves in the top eight.
Saturday sees Baroka FC host Chippa United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Along with AmaZulu, the two teams make up the three sides currently tied at 26 points in the middle of the league table.
The after afternoon fixture features Golden Arrows who host a resurgent Bidvest Wits looking t o climb their way back to safety after spending much of their defence of their maiden league title in the relegation zone.
The pick of the weekend’s fixtures is the clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City at FNB Stadium. Amakhosi won the reverse fixture in the Mother City putting an end to what was an unbeaten run for Benni McCarthy’s men.
