Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are here! The Duke and Duchess and their four-month-old son, Archie Harrison touched down for what will be a ten-day tour of Southern-Africa on Monday. The couple was spotted arriving at Cape Town International Airport in their first royal tour undertaken by them together with their son earlier this morning.

The British High Commissioner, Nigel Casey and the Minister of Tourism, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane reportedly welcomed the couple to the country after which their ‘official welcome’ to SA took place in Nyanga, a township just outside of Cape Town.

It is said to be the ‘murder capital’ of the country. Here the Duke and Duchess will take part in self-defence classes and female empowerment training as part of the Justice Desk initiative.

Prince Harry and Meghan will also tour the District Six Museum, a memorial to the 60,000 residents forced from their homes in the area during apartheid in the 1970s on Monday. Then they will proceed to learn about the efforts being made to reunite families separated by the regime, and join a community cooking activity with former District Six residents.

The Royal family in South Africa

Earlier this month, Prince Harry shared his excitement about his Southern-Africa tour on Instagram.

He said:

“In just a few weeks our family will be taking its first official tour to Africa, a region of the world that over the past two decades has been a second home to me,” said Prince Harry. “Our team has helped create a meaningful programme that we’re so excited to share with you. On a personal note, I can’t wait to introduce my wife and son to South Africa! We’ll see all of you very soon.”

The Duke continued to say that they want to celebrate ‘the beauty of this country as a whole’:

“Our monthly social awareness approach follows key accounts that inspire us and highlight those working towards positive change. As a lead up to the tour, for the month of September, we wish to celebrate the beauty of this wonderful continent as a whole: from local organisations working hard to better the environment, to the young leaders paving the way for a better future for the Commonwealth and beyond.

“These selected groups are a small representation of the incredible work being done in Africa today from countless people, local communities and organisations.”
