The price of petrol and diesel is expected to INCREASE in February.
PRICE OF PETROL AND DIESEL EXPECTED TO INCREASE
February’s petrol price changes will kick in two weeks from now, on the 7 February 2024.
The Automobile Association (AA) said consumers can expect a slight increase of about 11c/l for ULP95, 14c/l for ULP93, and 9c/l for diesel. Illuminating paraffin is showing a slight decrease of about 3c/l.
“The weaker rand to US dollar exchange rate is contributing most to the expected increases in fuel, even if it is by a small margin.”
THE WEAKER RAND IS CONTRIBUTING TO THE EXPECTED INCREASE
The AA furthermore said the more stable international oil prices are, however, having the reverse impact, resulting in lower illuminating paraffin prices.
AA has advised motorists to add a little extra to their fuel budgets for February.

THE OFFICIAL INCREASE IS EXPECTED TO COME INTO EFFECT ON 7 FEBRUARY

On 3 January, South African motorists welcomed the new year with good news when the retail price of 93 unleaded petrol decreased 62c/l, while 95 unleaded dropped 76c/l.
Wholesale diesel prices decreased R1.26/l for 0.005% sulphur and R1.18/l for 0.05% sulphur. Illuminating paraffin saw a reduction of R1.24/l.

HOW CAN YOU SAVE PETROL AND DIESEL?

- Anticipate changes to traffic conditions and minimise unnecessary braking and acceleration.
- Reducing speed by 20km/h can reduce fuel consumption by 20%.
- Plan your route and use traffic apps and alerts to avoid traffic jams and congestion.
- Keep your RPMs around 3 000 as it can also reduce your consumption by 20%.
- Regular maintenance improves fuel efficiency.
- Minimum use of the aircon.
