Former president Jacob Zuma has made damning claims regarding load shedding and has vowed to end the rolling blackouts should Umkhonto Wesizwe Party be voted into power.

LOAD SHEDDING: CIRCUMSTANCE OR MAN-MADE?

In a viral video on social media, Zuma alleges that the country’s power problems are man-made and claims that load shedding was started deliberately to enrich individual people’s businesses.

“There should never have been loadshedding. Load shedding was started deliberately by people who wanted to do business in their own way,” Zuma says.

“I got to know about it and I stopped it. I brought people who could act and stopped it-I stopped it”, he explains.

While the country has been battling with high stages of loadshedding for most of 2022, the former statesman claims that South Africans should not be experiencing load shedding today.

STAGE 3 AND 4

As soon as 2024 rolled in, the country’s power utility Eskom, announced a return of load shedding, after a two week reprieve.

The country is currently facing stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00. thereafter, stage 3 load shedding will be implemented until 05:00.

Eskom says this is due to the loss of generating capacity. Three units failed to return online as anticipated, and lost an additional six more units.
