Here’s how much the IEC has blessed each political party, based on the number of National Assembly seats it has ahead of the 2024 General Election. Image: File

The IEC has blessed each political party with millions of Rands in the buildup to the closest election in Mzansi’s history. Besides all private donations, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has also disclosed how much it has paid each political party from its own pocket. This is based on the number of seats in the National Assembly.

Moreover, of the thirteen eligible parties, the African National Congress (ANC) has received the lion’s share of disbursed funds, reports IOL. Furthermore, the below information comes courtesy of a report tabled in Parliament, regarding party representation in the National Assembly.

HERE’S HOW THE FUNDING BREAKS DOWN

  • ANC receives R148 million from the commission for being the largest party in the National Assembly.
  • Next, the Democratic Alliance (DA), being the second largest party, is blessed with R62.7 million.
  • Third on the list are the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Owing to their 44 members in the National Assembly, they’ve been blessed with R40.9 million.
  • The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus), which stakes claim to 10 seats in the National Assembly, receives R19.5 million from the IEC. This represents the fourth highest amount.
  • Fifth on the wrung is the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), which is allocated R14.6 million.
  • Sixth is the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP). As a proud member of Parliament since the first democratic elections in 1994, it received R9.7 million.
  • African Transformation Movement (ATM) is allocated R7.8 million.
  • Eight is the United Democratic Movement (UDM), allocated R6.4 million.
  • The National Freedom Party is blessed with R6.1 million.
  • Al-Jama-ah R5.2 million.
  • Congress of the People (COPE), with just two seats, receives R4.4 million.
  • The African Independent Congress (AIC) also gets R4.4 million for its two seats in the National Assembly.
  • Rounding up the list, the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) received R4.1 million.
