The police in the Eastern Cape is on the hunt for a suspect who allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman in Greenbushes on 31 May 2022. The suspect reportedly lured the victim into the bushes before assaulting her.

POLICE HUNT FOR RAPE SUSPECT

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the suspect went to the victim’s home in Kuyga at 9:00 on 31 May and told her that he knows someone who was looking for a domestic worker.

“He further informed the victim that she needed to accompany him so that he can take her to the address in Cape Road.

“While they were walking in Mission Road, the suspect indicated that they needed to take a shortcut through the bushes.

“While in the thicket, he threatened the victim with a screwdriver and raped her. Her cellphone was also taken,” said Naidu.

The woman knows the suspect’s face as she had seen him in the area several times before the alleged rape.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing a grey jacket, grey trousers and black shoes. However, the victim alleges she saw the suspect in the distance when she emerged from the bushes and he was wearing a black jacket.

The police say the suspect is aged between 25 and 30 and is approximately 1,7 metres tall with a dark complexion.

The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Gqeberha is investigating a case of rape and theft.

Members of the public with information about the suspect – pictured in an identikit – are encouraged to contact the investigating officer Detective-Sergeant Thabang Shilajoe at 071-475-2310 or Crime Stop at 08600-10111.
