Police officers among suspects arrested for double murder

Two police officers are among suspects arrested for murder, kidnapping amongst other charges in Port Shepstone.

Five suspects, including two police officers were expected to appear at the Port Shepstone Magistrates Court regarding the murder of two men who disappeared at Msinsini Police Station in February 2022. 

The suspects, aged between 38 and 47, were arrested on Tuesday, 13 December, for murder, kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice, and attempted murder in the Marburg area in Port Shepstone.


According to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), it is alleged that two males were reported missing at Msinsini police station in February this year. 

A missing person docket was registered, and the investigation ensued. On 28 February 2022, a decomposed body was found in Msinsini area, and it was positively identified as one of the missing persons. 

The investigation continued, and in September 2022, the skeletal remains suspected to be one of the other missing person were also found in the same vicinity.

Hawks spokesperson in KwaZulu-Natal, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, said DNA samples were collected and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.

“It is alleged that the severely assaulted victims were and their bodies were dumped in the bushes. The five suspects are expected to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrates Court today, and more arrests are imminent,” he said.
