Police offer R100k cash reward for information after several elderly people were murdered

The Organised Crime Unit in the Eastern Cape is appealing to the public for assistance and is offering a R100 000 reward for information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect, or suspects, responsible for the murders of several elderly people in the Izingqolweni Locality in Lady Frere.
POLICE NEEDS THE PUBLIC’S HELP TO SOLVE MURDER CASES
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said several elderly men and women were allegedly murdered in Izingqolweni Locality, Lady Frere, between December 2020 and July 2021.
“Most of the victims were women who lived alone. They were all attacked at night and due to the infrastructure of the area, there are no street lights hence making it difficult for one to spot any person lurking around,” said the police spokesperson.
The victims were reportedly stabbed to death and the motive for the murders is yet to be established.
Naidu said intensive investigations conducted in Izingqolweni Locality have not furthered the cases and efforts to identify and trace the suspects have stalled. Therefore, the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation (OCI), hopes a cash reward will coax any individual that knows something about the murders to step forward and lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of those responsible.
