Police launch manhunt for cash-in-transit robbers

Police have launched a manhunt for a group of robbers after two vans were hit in a cash-in-transit robbery near Marikana in the North West on Thursday night, 27 January 2023.

TWO VANS HIT IN CASH-IN-TRANSIT ROBBERY

Armed men fired multiple shots at the two cash vans traveling on the N4 between Buffelspoort and Marikana.

Police Spokesperson Vish Naidoo said the robbers fired shots at the vehicles causing them to veer off the road,’ Jacaranda reported.

The police said a 72-hour action plan had been initiated to arrest the perpetrators.

According to Arrive Alive, ER24 paramedics and various other services arrived on the scene to find a cash-in-transit van in the middle of the road.

ONE MAN WAS SHOT IN THE LEG DURING THE ROBBERY

“The vehicle had been completely ripped open with debris lying across the scene. A light motor vehicle was also parked a short distance away, riddled with bullet holes.”

Local authorities closed the road and the surrounding area while paramedics assessed the patients on the scene.

One man sustained a gunshot wound to his lower leg. Paramedics treated the man and, after that, transported him to a nearby private hospital for further treatment, Arrive Alive reported.

The exact details surrounding this incident are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene to investigate further.

This week alone, police foiled two other cash heists.

Naidoo says four suspects were arrested in Senekal in the Free State and Ngcobo in the Eastern Cape, respectively.

One man, a security guard, sustained minor injuries following a cash-in-transit heist on the Marikana Road near Kroondal.

Two Mozambican nationals were arrested by members of the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) following a cash-in-transit robbery Saturday morning at about 09:18, 28 January 2023, in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal.

The arrests followed a sequence of events that started with a cash-in-transit robbery on Ireland Street in the Verulam CBD, Kwazulu-Natal.

RUSA members recovered a cash box which was stolen during a cash-in-transit robbery.
