Quick response by police disrupts farm attack

Thanks to police’s quick response to a tip-off about a farm attack, 19 stolen sheep and four goats were recovered

The police’s quick response following a tip-off aided in the disruption of a farm attack at Welwediend in Verena on Tuesday morning, 17 January 2023, at around 2:00.

Police disrupt farm attack – 19 sheep recovered

After police received a tip-off, members were mobilised and attended to the scene.

When police arrived, they discovered three pickup trucks loaded with 19 sheep and four goats worth more than R40 000.

A chase ensured between the police and the suspects.

As a result, one of the suspects’ vehicles was involved in an accident, and the other two abandoned their vehicles to avoid arrest.

They then fled the scene without being apprehended, and police discovered two firearms inside the vehicles when they searched them.

Victim hears a gunshot while asleep

The victim stated that he was sleeping when he heard a gunshot from outside.

Before he could figure out what was going on, he heard a loud bang at the door. The armed suspects entered the residence and robbed him.

The victim was robbed of two cell phones worth approximately R1 500.

The crashed vehicle, as well as the other two vehicles, were abandoned on the scene, resulting in the recovery of the firearms and livestock.

The investigation into who owns the three cars is ongoing.

Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has praised the police for their prompt response.

Manamela also condemned farm attacks and assured citizens that police are working around the clock to stop and address the problem.
