You can call this one a hat-trick for all the right reasons: Petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin are all experiencing cost reductions over the next month, providing slight relief for the South African consumer.

Why has the petrol price for November decreased?

The rand’s eleventh-hour recovery in the past week has helped nudge a rare decrease over the line. Despite a tumultuous October, the currency managed to stabilise over the past few days, off the back of a weakening US dollar and the leniency showed by Moody’s: The credit ratings agency decided against putting SA in “junk status”.

Things could look even rosier for the December price, too: The AA notes that oil ticked up slightly from its late-October plateau and says that “this could be the start of a strengthening trend into November”.
