‘Intoxicated’ pedestrian run over by taxi in KZN

A pedestrian who is believed to have been intoxicated was run over by a taxi in Verulam CBD. In a similar incident, a pedestrian was killed.

A pedestrian was seriously injured after he was run over by a minibus taxi on Wick Street in the Verulam CBD in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Saturday afternoon.

PEDESTRIAN RUN OVER IN KZN 

According to private security, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), members arrived on scene at approximately 16:14 and found the pedestrian bleeding from an injury to his head. He was suspected of being intoxicated. 

RUSA spokesperson, Prem Balram said according to the driver of a white Toyota Hiace, the pedestrian attempted to run across the road when he was struck. 

“The injured male was stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital by ambulance.”

In another incident, a male pedestrian believed to be in his mid-thirties was reportedly killed after he was run over by a white Toyota Avanza on Gopalall Hurbans road in the Tongaat CBD also in KZN.

According to private security, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), its members were called out to the scene at approximately 04:02 after receiving requests for assistance for the critically injured pedestrian. 

Reaction Officers and RUSA Medics were immediately dispatched and on arrival located the pedestrian on the side of the road. 

RUSA spokesperson, Prem Balram said on examination he was found to have sustained life threatening injuries and died on scene. 

“According to the driver of the vehicle, he was travelling on Gopalall Hurbans Road heading in the direction of the Watson Highway intersection when he noticed the pedestrian standing on the road. He was unable to avoid him. The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the accident.”
