The summer season does not only mean clear blue skies and sunny weather, sometimes the season is marred by unpredictable weather which may affect motorists and pedestrians.

CITY OF JOBURG CAUTIONS RESIDENTS AGAINST BAD WEATHER

With the weather patterns changing every now and again, the City of Joburg issued pedestrian safety tips to help out during flooding.

“If you are outdoors with heavy downpours and flooding occurs, get to the higher ground immediately! You cannot outrun a flash flood,” the city cautioned.

SAFETY TIPS FOR PEDESTRIANS

Here are pedestrian safety tips to be mindful of:

  • Keep out of places that are likely to flooding.
  • Avoid already flooded areas and fast-flowing rivers.
  • Never try to run across flooding water when the water is above your ankles.
  • Do not walk into or near high water levels.
  • Keep children safely away from open stormwater drains.

PERFECT SEASON TO START RAINWATER HARVESTING

Meanwhile, Johannesburg Water has encouraged residents to take advantage of the heavy rainfall by harvesting the rainwater.

With level -1 water restrictions currently in place, Johannesburg Water sees it apt that residents benefit from rainwater harvesting.

“Rainwater harvesting can be useful during times of intermittent supply by providing you with water to flush your toilet, water your garden, and even wash your car,” the entity advised.
