Leading African billionaire and mining mogul, Patrice Motsepe, has rubbed South Africans up the wrong way with his recent comments to the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

Watch: Patrice Motsepe bromances Trump at WEF

Patrice Motsepe has been in Davos, Switzerland, to pursue the interests of his empire at the World Economic Forum (WEF), where South Africa is currently being represented by Dirco Minister, Naledi Pandor.

Everything about the occasion was swell until a video surfaced where Patrice Motsepe was heard showering President Trump with love and adoration.

Right at the start of his meeting with the leaders of the Free World, Motsepe made it clear that he and Africa absolutely love America.

“All we wanted to say is that Africa loves America, Africa loves you. It is very, very important. We want America to do well, we want you to do well, and the success of America is the success of the world,” Motsepe, barely able to catch his breath, chimed.

While the footage has sparked outrage, some have attached Motsepe’s remarks to the incident that took place outside the US Embassy, in Pretoria, on Thursday.

Members of the South African Communist Party (SACP) held a picket outside the embassy in condemnation of the US’ recent engagements with Iran, where revered military veteran, General Qasem Soleimani was brutally killed by a drone strike.

A memorandum with a list of demands was handed over to the embassy and the SACP has since given Trump seven business days to furnish a response via email.

Alas, some South Africans were awestruck by Motsepe’s remarks and these are some of the best reactions:
