Dressed in bright yellow disinfection gear, blue goggles and a gas mask, Paseka “Pastor Mboro” Motsoeneng gave a short sermon on how God told him that the coronavirus would affect the world.

“God said to me there’s going to be outbreaks. Outbreaks that will even cause hospitals to kill doctors and nurses. That’s the time we should be seeking God,” he said in his sermon.

Pastor known for ‘outlandish comments’

Mboro has previously made outlandish comments about local and global issues.

Filmed for his Facebook audience and congregants of The Incredible Happenings Church, Mboro’s sermon delves into biblical doctrine as he explains that the book of Exodus speaks about contagious diseases that will spread easily.

“I listened to the president saying all gatherings and public meetings are banned because of health issues. God said to me that this outbreak will happen this year, so it didn’t take me by surprise. We’ve been preparing and praying.

“God gave me a way to pray for the president, saying that the storms that are coming are going to be heavy. What we need to do is take better care of ourselves and listen to what we’re being told,” said Mboro.

Mboro: ‘Cleanliness is next to godliness’

At one point in the video, Mboro gestures to a man who is dressed in the exact same outfit as him and asks him to tell viewers why they are dressed like that. The man says that they are disinfecting the church to kill viruses and bacteria and to keep people safe. This is because “cleanliness is next to godliness”, Mboro says, adding that people must be careful.

Crop-destroying insects and Earth cracking in two

He then launches into another tirade about famine and insects destroying crops.

“God told us that there will be flying insects, cockroaches. Locusts will come and eat the crops. It didn’t happen in South Africa. It happened outside because we stood in the gap and prayed.

“Now when all these things happened, God told us they will happen. It’s going to be a chaotic year, we’re going to have the Earth cracking in two because of earthquakes. I saw while I was asleep some spiders…some creeping, moving creatures that will come and infect and destroy people,” he says in the sermon.

His impromptu sermon is not without encouragement as he comments that South Africa will survive the COVID-19 outbreak.

“We can fight this. Nothing is impossible with God. He did not say that we will be ended by this thing.”
