A phobia is an anxiety disorder involving excessive and persistent fear of a situation or object. Exposure to the source of the fear triggers an immediate anxiety response.
Most specific phobias fall into one of four major categories:
Phobia of the Day: Ichthyophobia, an extreme and overwhelming fear of fish.
In the case of fear of fish that originates due to psychological factors, the phobia can cause the individual to be afraid of dead or living fish. Such people tend to have a full-blown panic attack even at the sight or thought of fish. This can negatively impact one’s day-to-day life.
