The history behind pizza day

Pizza day originated in the 10th century in Naples, Italy, where records first show the presence of what has now become modern pizza.

This simple flatbread, spread with sauce and sprinkled with cheese, likely started as a creative snack for families.

They had no idea of the sensation they had created.

Lombardi’s, a pizzeria in New York City, sparked the love of this yummy dinner treat in America in 1905.

This was when they received the first mercantile license to make this in the United States.

Lombardi’s still operates today, offering those who want to taste the first real pizza in America a visit to Little Italy in Manhattan.

The exact origin of this remains uncertain, but it is estimated to have begun in the early 2000s.

Regardless of when it started, this delicious holiday deserves to be celebrated every year… or perhaps, every day.
