That’ll do it, mate. Bheki Cele has used his first engagement of the new week to pour away alcohol in Cape Town. Some 30 000 litres of seized liquor was scheduled to be destroyed on Monday – and the police minister put himself front-and-centre for the task.
Mass shootings over the weekend
Cele will also visit Khayelitsha later in the day, where a mass shooting claimed more lives in the bustling townships over the weekend. After similar events in Soweto, Alex, Pietermaritzburg, Lenasia, Mamelodi, and Bloemfontein took place this month, a concerned nation is demanding answers.
Alas, they remain in short supply. Although a number of arrests have been made in recent days, the motives and backgrounds of those in police custody have not been made public. These violent shootings have led to DOZENS of deaths in July.
Even with the spate of arrests, Bheki Cele finds himself under constant criticism. The hatted minister was the subject of a petition which gained over 100 000 signatures recently, asking for the ANC veteran to be fired from his position. So, how has he reacted to all this?

With a beaming grin upon his face, the former pantomime villain of lockdown – famous for his disdain of alcohol and strict opinions on curfews and cigarettes – got to work in dumping the first of many, many bottles of alcohol confiscated by local law enforcement agencies.
