It’s official. KFC are now going to dig into one of the most popular urban legends doing the rounds in South Africa. According to the fast food franchise, they will now set-up a private investigation to bust one cheeky chancer – who has allegedly been posing as a fake food inspector.

Scramble to find ‘fake food inspector’

In a press release circulated on Tuesday, KFC announced that the probe would get to the bottom of claims that first surfaced in 2019. Although some rumours have been completely debunked, officials in Mzansi are still suspicious that someone is dining out illegally.

The problem KFC have, however, is that these ‘fake stories’ have gone on to inspire real-life impersonators. The first few false reports had such a wide reach, other South Africans have since tried their luck as Quality Assurance workers. It has become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

KFC looking to track down ‘urban legend’

Beckett Mathunzi is the head investigator on this case. The top cop will have to sniff out any ‘fowl play’, and a dedicated hotline has been set-up for members of the public, in case they have any tip-offs to share.

If there is no truth to this myth, Mathunzi may be left running about like a headless chicken. The PI won’t be afraid to ruffle a few feathers, and catching this suspect would be a real coup. KFC are certain, however, that this mystery has legs – and they’re ready to stick their beaks in…

“KFC has announced it will launch a private investigation to track down an alleged fake food inspector soliciting free food from KFC stores across South Africa. Media reports of the alleged fake KFC Quality Assurance Inspector first surfaced in 2019.”

“The incidents initially reported were believed to be urban legend. Subsequent social media coverage of the fake food inspector has led to further stories of other quality assurance impersonators.”

“KFC has appointed Private Investigator Beckett Mathunzi, to establish the authenticity of the alleged reports and, if real, track down the identity of the fake food inspector. Any information can be shared via the 24-hour hotline, on 0872 406 724.” | KFC press release
