NSFAS urges students to appeal rejected financial aid applications

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has urged students facing rejection or withdrawal of their financial aid applications to initiate the appeals process.
In a recent statement, NSFAS emphasised that students must take action within 30 days of receiving their application results.
To appeal, rejected applicants must access the myNSFAS website and provide all required information. Additionally, NSFAS stated that unsuccessful applicants will find an appeal option on their myNSFAS accounts, which they can activate to begin the process.

Multiple factors drive application rejections
Several factors contribute to application rejections. These include exceeding the household income threshold of R350 000 per annum, failure to meet academic eligibility criteria, and incomplete applications.
NSFAS underscored the necessity for applicants to furnish all necessary documentation. They cautioned that failure to do so could impact the appeal outcome.
“To strengthen your appeal, gather all relevant documentation that supports your case. This may include academic records, financial statements, affidavits, or any other documents that demonstrate your need for financial assistance,” advised NSFAS.

Furthermore, NSFAS clarified that appeal decisions are contingent upon budget availability. Financial constraints may influence final determinations while considering appeals.
