Nine arrested for Nkandla mosque robbery

Police said armed men stormed the place of worship, robbing worshippers of cash, cellphones, and valuables.

Nine suspects have been arrested for robbing worshippers at a mosque in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), on Friday, 23 June.

Swift Police Response and Community Cooperation Lead to Arrests in Nkandla Mosque Robbery

The victims said the men stormed the mosque with firearms and stripped them of cash, cellphones and other valuables.

“Police at Nkandla were notified and immediately mobilised all available police officers and other law enforcement agencies,” said Brigadier Jay Naicker.

“With the assistance of the community, police were able to locate a sedan and mini-bus taxi that was used to flee the scene.”

Firearms, Cash, and Stolen Cellphones Recovered

Police stopped the vehicles at separate locations and arrested nine men aged between 24 and 33 years old.

Three pistols, cash and some of the stolen cellphones were found in the suspects’ possession. More arrests are expected and the suspects in custody are due in court imminently.
