In a chase straight out of a Hollywood movie, the South African Police Service successfully recovered a stolen Nissan 1400 on the R80 route in Gauteng. Watch the bizarre footage here.
The South African Police Service with the assistance of SAPS Airwing successfully apprehended the driver of a stolen Nissan 1400 on the R80 in Gauteng.
Two videos of the chase – footage from a SAPS helmet-mounted camera – were shared on social media earlier today by StolenCarRSA, along with the caption:
“Criminals are everywhere Well done to the [South African Police Serice] in relentless pursuit”.
StolenCarRSA also reminded South Africans to be aware of their surroundings, as “fleeing criminals will drive recklessly in their attempts to escape”. In this instance, SAPS also opened fire on the vehicle.
The driver eventually lost control and pulled off to the side of the road, most likely after SAPS took aim at the Nissan 1400’s tyres. He can then be seen slowly emerging from the vehicle, surrounded by armed officers.

It’s not every day we see a car chase in South Africa, let alone a high-speed chase and shootout. Needless to say, the videos caused quite a stir online as one user noted:
“Wow, I’m so speechless, South Africans produce action movie thanks to Nissan 1400 and @SAPoliceService
One netizen said they never knew SAPS was capable of “such impressive work”, while a third shared a screenshot of the Nissan going around a bend, adding: “At this moment I knew the 1400 driver is skilled”.
For those who are of the opinion that the SAPS officer “can’t drive”, one citizen offered the following explanation:
“Those saying SAPS car couldn’t keep up with a 1400, the idea is not to race against the car but to chase it down so the thugs can give in and pull over. SAPS keeps a safe distance from behind while figuring ways to overwhelm the suspects. That’s exactly what they did. Great job”.
