As previously reported, Netcare 911 spokesperson, Shawn Herbst said when medics arrived on scene they found one of the cars stuck underneath the trailer of a truck, sadly all four occupants which were female showed no signs of life and were declared deceased on the scene.

Mbalula said it is incredibly saddening to  continue to mourn the loss of loved ones as a result of road carnage.

“I would like to convey my heartfelt condolences to the relatives and friends of those who lost their lives due to a fatal crash which took place on the N3 this morning,” he said

According to the Department of Transport there are five people currently undergoing medical attention for wounds sustained during the incident.

Furthermore, the department said the cause of the fatal crash is reportedly currently unclear as crash investigators and law enforcement agents are still pursuing investigations and clearing the scene.

Mbalula has since urged all motorists to practise safe driving in order to not pose a danger to themselves as well as other motorists as the festive season is around the corner.

“We are headed towards our festive season and the Department of Transport working alongside law enforcement officials will ensure that there is great visibility on our roads in attempts to curb carnage. I would also like to urge all our motorists to practise safe driving on the roads as this, too, would aid the fight against road accidents,” he said.
