Motsoeneng cost the embattled SABC R1.4 billion

Ousted SABC COO and famous fibber Hlaudi Motsoeneng has pushed the SABC to a point where they’ll be joining Eskom and SAA on the financial naughty list.

Motsoeneng cost the embattled

According to the Sunday Times, Motsoeneng is responsible for the SABC’s bleak financial position and the repercussions won’t be easy to deal with considering the national broadcaster’s difficulties in appointing capable leaders.

Motsoeneg was fired earlier this year, because he lied about his qualifications when applying for the top job at the SABC, and even though certain senior government officials rallied behind him, the Cape Town High Court ordered he be suspended.

Unfortunately the judiciary’s decision was too little and much too late, as he’s reportedly cost the broadcaster around R1.4 billion.

The main contributing factors to the SABC’s financial woes under the Motsoeneng leadership are:

  • A R350 million drop in profits
  • R450 million drop in liquid capital
  • R85 million increase in freelance expenditure
  • Permanent staff bill went up by R900 million to R3.2 billion

Look, it’s not like the man botched a pitch to a client, broke the office coffee machine of crashed the company car… this is R1.4 billion, of which a big chunk comes from the Taxpayer.
