At the time of the UN’s release of the statistics, it marked 536 days of war, meaning around 17 people are killed daily in the Ukraine in a year and a half.
Meanwhile, the quarterly police statistics accounts for cases reported between April and June this year, and within the 90 days, 6 228 people were killed around the country. Meaning an astonishing 69 people have been killed daily in just three months.
If the pattern is maintained, for same period of 536 days, 36 984 lives would have been lost in South Africa.
According to the UN, 545 children and an estimate 2623 women have lost their lives in war torn Ukraine in the last 18months, while 293 children and 895 have been killed in South Africa in just 90 days. That is three children and ten women murdered per day.
