Matric results 2023: Meet SA’s top performing learner Melissa Muller
Melissa Muller from Rhenish High School in the Western Cape was the top performing learner in the matric class of 2023.

Number one learner in the matric class of 2023 in public schools, Melissa Muller from Rhenish High School in the Western Cape, says she will study Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Stellenbosch.
Muller was announced the top-performing learner in the matric class of 2023 when Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga announced the results in Randburg on Thursday evening.

Speaking to the media after the announcement, Muller, who played first-team hockey and water polo for her school, advised this year’s matriculants to enjoy their year and to have a support system.
“It’s a jam-packed year. It will get overwhelming; have a support system, your family, and ask them for help when needed.
“I think also stay up to date with your school work; it will help you identify problem areas early on, which will help you avoid the stress of cramming the night before exams,” she said.

Muller said her family was supportive because she got stressed out during exams.
“My mom was always checking if I was okay and if I needed anything. I wouldn’t have done it without the support of the staff at Rhenish High school,” she added.

BEST-PERFORMING DISTRICTS IN SOUTH AFRICA
The Gauteng province is known for producing excellent results and it is no surprise that three of its best-performing districts were among the Top 10 in the country. KwaZulu-Natal which ranked second nationally with a pass rate of 86.4% also has four districts in the Top 10.
