Mbalula’s wife, Motsoeneng and the R631 million Free State housing scam

Former SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng and minister of sport Fikile Mbalula’s wife are embroiled in a housing scandal running into the hundreds of millions.

Just because he’s no longer able to loot the SABC, doesn’t mean oll’ Hlaudi hasn’t got a few side projects filling up the bank account. Turns out Motsoeneng, Nozuko Mbalula — wife of none other than our lover of lavishness Fikile Mbalula — and no less than 106 building contractors are being sued after R631 million was being spent on housing, with not a single house being built.

According to News24, the head of the Free State housing department, Ntimotse Mokhesi, gave a sworn affidavit in which he outlined the string of transactions, saying that the department had made the payments without prior written agreements.

“The department hadn’t followed prescribed procedures to indicate who the suppliers were and who had been paid. The total amount paid was about R1bn,” Mokhesi said in his affidavit to the Bloemfontein High Court.

“The payments were made illegally because there were no contracts with suppliers and proper procedures weren’t followed. In addition, neither the national housing department nor the Treasury had approved it – or even knew about it. To top it all, none of the suppliers and contractors had lifted a finger or provided any materials.”

Motsoeneng and Mbalula are being sued alongside the contractors for receiving illegal payments, with both of them reportedly pocketing millions.

But wait, there’s more. Now minister of mineral resources and alleged Gupta stooge, minister Mosebenzi Zwane is could also be involved, as he was the Free State’s housing MEC at the time.
