Mayor’s team wins Easter challenge with impressive score [PICS]

Known for his tuck-in persona in public, this time Mayor Thobella loosened up in match gear to give his rivals a good run for their money.

The Easter weekend might be done and dusted but in Pietermaritzburg, the memories live on following the mayor’s impressive stint on the pitch.

MAYOR PROOF TO NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER

Msunduzi Local Municipality Mayor Mzimkhulu Thobella was the true epitome of ‘Never judge a book by its cover’ after he participated in the memorable Easter tournament in the city which saw his side win against rivals.

Known for his tuck-in persona when making public appearances, this time mayor Thobella loosened up in match gear to give his rivals a good run for their money.

GAME TIME DURING THE EASTER TOURNAMENT

The match comprising Msunduzi councillors was played as a Curtain Raiser before the final of the Mayoral Easter Tournament.

The Msunduzi Councillors made up of the Mayor’s XI vs Deputy Mayor‘s XI took to the pitch at Harry Gwala Stadium where the mayor’s team emerged victorious by 2 goals to 1 after a stellar display of football.

Residents of Msunduzi Municipality were treated to games from promising clubs locally such as teams from Maqongqo, Howick City, Wartburg, and Royal Eagles in the Maritzburg United home ground.

ETHEKWINI TOURNAMENT ATTENDED BY INFLUENTIAL FIGURES

Meanwhile, neighbouring city, Durban, also had its fair share of football fun during the Easter weekend which enjoyed attendance from prominent dignitaries.

EThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda joined the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa, President of CAF Dr. Patrice Motsepe, and SAFA President Danny Jordaan at the finals of the CAF African Schools Football Championship at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on 8 April.

Reflecting on the event, Mayor Kaunda said the hosting of this tournament in eThekwini indicates that the City remains the destination of choice for international sporting events.
