Gauteng’s Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, recently unveiled the matric results for 2023, revealing an impressive overall pass rate of 82.9%.

The Free State emerged as the top-performing province, achieving a remarkable 89.3% overall pass rate. KwaZulu-Natal secured the second position with an 86.3% overall pass rate, closely followed by Gauteng, claiming the third spot with an 85.3% pass rate.

Matric results 2023 show a notable improvement

These results showcase a significant improvement compared to the previous year, with the matric class of 2023 experiencing a 2.8 percentage points increase in their overall pass rate.

Minister Motshekga emphasised the historic nature of these achievements. Highlighting that this marks the highest success rate since the inception of National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations in 2008.

Despite facing numerous challenges. The students displayed resilience and determination in crossing the threshold into the next phase of their lives.

“Notwithstanding a myriad of challenges, these young individuals have crossed the threshold into the next chapter of their lives,” said the Minister Motshekga.
