The six-week wait for 2023 examination results for around 900 000 matric students came to an end early on Friday, 19 January.

According to the Nasi iSpani website, students can access their 2023 matric results through various channels, the primary one being the Department of Basic Education’s official website.

To log in and view their results, students need to have their examination number and ID number handy.

This process is designed to be user-friendly and secure, ensuring that each student can access their personal results confidentially.

In addition to the online method, students can also collect a printed statement of their results from their respective schools or examination centres.

For those unable to access their results online or visit their schools, there are alternative methods available:

1. The Department of Basic Education (DBE) official website

2. SMS

  • SMS your exam number to 45856
  • The system verifies the Exam number; your exam number must be correct in order to be accepted.
  • Learners will be charged R1-50 per SMS, free SMS’s do not apply.

3. USSD

  • Dial *120*45856# enter exam number to register.
  • You will be charged R1-50 per minute.
  • Results will be sent to your phone once they are available

4. MATRICSMATE APP

  • Download for free from Google Play and Apple App Stores
  • Sign Up using your name, surname and email address
  • Once you have signed up, you will receive a confirmation code via email
  • Use the code you verify your account
  • Once your account has been verified, set a password and login
  • Navigate to the results icon
  • Enter your Exam number and get your 2023 matric results

For students who find their results are not what they expected, it is crucial to remember that this is not the end of the road.

There are multiple avenues for improvement or alternative career paths, including re-marking, supplementary exams, vocational training, and other educational opportunities.

Re-marking and re-checking of matric results

For students wishing to apply for re-marking or re-checking of their examination scripts, the following steps are crucial:

  • Register on the e-Gov portal to create a personal account.
  • Log in using your username and password.
  • Select the “e-Re-Mark/ Re-Check” service.
  • Choose the subjects for re-marking or re-checking.
  • Confirm all the information and submit your request.
  • You will receive updates on the status of your request via email.

Important Dates and Fees

  • Application Deadline: February 2, 2024.
  • Results for Re-Marking: Released from March 15, 2024.
  • Fees: R120 for re-mark, R29 for re-check, and R234 for viewing your script.
  • Fee Waivers: Full-time learners at no-fee schools are eligible for fee waivers.

Queries and corrections

If students have any queries or need corrections (such as name or identity number mismatches), they can contact the Department of Basic Education. It is crucial to submit any queries within 30 days after result release and report corrections before February 21, 2024.
