Mangosuthu Buthelezi makes progress in hospital

Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s health is improving after being in hospital for a month. The IFP Founder turns 95 this Sunday

Just four days till his 95th birthday, family of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi are looking forward to the possibility of the statesman spending his birthday at home.

Currently admitted to St Augustine Hospital in Durban, Buthelezi had developed complications following a procedure to alleviate back pain and has been in hospital for over a month.

According to IOL, his spokesperson Liezl van der Merwe has rubbished claims that the IFP founders health has deteriorated.

Van de Merwe has however confirmed the complete opposite and says that Buthelezi is well on the road to recovery and ‘has made remarkable progress under medical supervision’.

During this period, various political parties have wished the Zulu Prime Minister a speedy recovery. Anglican Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, also paid him a visit and pleaded to the country to pray for his speedy recovery.

Two weeks ago, a royal source had according to Eyewitness News, revealed to them that King Misuzulu kaZwelithini was not allowed to visit his uncle.

The monarch and the prime ministers relationship turned sour since the appointment of Inkosi Thanduyise Mzimela as the chairperson of Inyonyama Trust Board.

There had also been a public spat between the two over the King’s health, which saw him flee to Swaziland to his uncle, King Mswati III’s palace.

According to van der Merwe, the family is expected to make an update regarding Buthelezi’s health later this week.
