South African Police Services in the Western Cape confirmed the tragic incident on Friday morning.

“The circumstances surrounding the death of a 40-year-old man are being investigated after he was shot and killed while sitting on the veranda of a tavern in Gordon’s Bay yesterday afternoon [Thursday 10 September] at around 14:45,” said Colonel Andrè Traut.

“The suspect fled the scene on a motorbike and is yet to be arrested,” added Traut.

In the video, a man dressed in a black bomber jacket with grey jeans on what appears to be a  black motorbike can be seen pulling up opposite a tavern in Gordon’s Bay. All the while, a man also in a black jacket, can be seen sitting outside the tavern on a bench.

The suspect then gets off his motorbike and after a car passes, crosses the road in the direction of the tavern.

The suspect can be seen walking up behind the man. He can then be seen shooting the man in the back of his head. The victim instantly falls back on the floor. The suspect then, in a hurry, walks back across the road, climbs onto his bike and rides off after a few seconds.

According to the Suburban Control Centre on Facebook, the motive for the shooting is still unknown.

SEVEN PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED FAILED HIT ON CAPE TOWN ATTORNEY

Prominent Cape Town attorney William Booth was shot outside his home in an alleged failed hit in Higgovale, Cape Town in early April. Although some of the suspects were caught by street cameras, police ended up arresting seven suspects in a late-night raid a month later in May.

“This office can confirm that five male and two female suspects were arrested last night in Woodstock following an appeal made by the investigating officer for information regarding an attempted murder case on 2020-04-09,” Traut said at the time.

“The vehicle used by the suspects at the time of the incident was also recovered and confiscated. The suspects are currently being questioned by detectives and court appearances are yet to be scheduled.”
