A 26-year-old man died while allegedly attempting to illicitly connect electricity to his dwelling on Couta Street, Kuyga, Greenbushes.

A 26-year-old man’s untimely demise occurred as he allegedly attempted to illicitly connect electricity to his dwelling. In a tragic incident unfolding on Saturday, 20 April, around 2:00 in the morning, the resident of the main house on Couta Street, Kuyga, Greenbushes, was met with a grim discovery.

Furthermore, upon investigating the incessant barking of her dogs, she ventured outside to find the tenant of the flatlet sprawled lifeless on the roof, clutching wires in his hands.

Fatal electrocution tragedy

The circumstances surrounding the incident point to a fatal electrocution during what authorities believe was an unauthorised attempt to tap into the power supply. It is suspected that the individual, driven by the need for electricity, took matters into his own hands, leading to the tragic outcome.

Law enforcement officials have issued a stern warning to the community in light of this unfortunate event.

“Police are urging residents to refrain from illegally connecting electricity as this can have fatal consequences,” said SAPS in a statement.

In addition, an inquest docket has been initiated, with the South African Police Service (SAPS) Kabega Park spearheading the investigation.
