The man behind the vicious Klerksdorp BRAWL has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.

MAN BEHIND VICIOUS KLERKSDORP BRAWL CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

According to police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh, Wernich Botha (33) appeared before the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

“Wernich Botha appeared on charges of attempted murder and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH). He was granted bail of R2000 and will reappear before the same court on Thursday, 19 October 2023.”

BOTHA WAS ARRESTED ON THURSDAY MORNING

She said Botha was arrested this morning after an incident was reported on Sunday, 3 September 2023, at about 13:30.

“According to information at our disposal, Botha allegedly assaulted a 32-year-old man as well as a 44-year-old man in a parking area at a shopping centre in Doornkruin, Klerksdorp.

“Both victims were taken to a local hospital, where the 44-year-old man was discharged with a shoulder injury and concussion. The 32-year-old man sustained a brain injury and is still admitted to hospital.”

THE 32-YEAR-OLD MAN SUSTAINED A BRAIN INJURY

Myburgh said that video clips were circulated on various social media platforms due to the incident.

“The police would like to request the public to not further share the clips as that can hamper investigations.”

THE VIDEOS OF THE FIGHT HAS GONE VIRAL

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the incident and said conflict should be resolved peacefully instead of resorting to violence, as that constitutes a criminal offence.

He said the police will continue working hard to ensure criminals are put behind bars.
