A man was arrested for perjury after he was linked to a CIT robbery that happened outside Mnandi Spar along Tulip Road, Centurion

On Friday, 17 February 2023, police arrested Godfrey Kanyana,41, at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court where he was appearing for a perjury case.

Man arrested for perjury after CIT robbery

The arrest was made on a warrant linked to a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery that took place on Friday, 27 January 2022, outside Mnandi Spar along Tulip Road, Centurion.

During the robbery, a group of armed suspects accosted a G4S cash guard after a pick up, resulting in the guard being fatally shot.

The suspects fled the scene in a white Toyota Corolla which was later found abandoned nearby.

After an investigation, the Hawks’ Serious Crime Investigation determined that the vehicle belonged to Kanyana, who had falsely reported it as hijacked.

Kanyana was subsequently charged with perjury and has since been linked to the robbery, facing additional charges of murder and robbery.

This makes him the third person to be arrested in connection with the robbery, following Sabelo Lawrence Masemola,27, who was arrested on 07 March 2022, and Elias Masemola,24, who was arrested on 10 April 2022.

The Masemola pair has already appeared in court several times and appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on 24 February 2023, along with Kanyana who will be joining the follow-up proceedings.
