Man arrested for the murder of a man in tavern

A 45-year-old man was arrested for the murder of a man in a tavern, he is also said to have committed a robbery shortly after the incident

A 45-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday, 26 December at Mkhuhlu near Bushbuckridge on charges of murder, armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition as well as pointing a firearm.

Charged for the murder of a man in a tavern

A man was arrested at around 3:30 on allegations that he fatally shot Aby Nginindza, 40, at a tavern that has a car wash in Mkhulu.

According to the report, Calcutta police received information about a shooting incident on the premises.

When they arrived, they discovered the victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim was still alive at this stage.

An ambulance was also called to the scene, but one of the victims’ family members decided to transport him to a nearby hospital to save his life.

Unfortunately, the injured man was declared dead upon arrival.

A murder investigation was launched, and on the same day as the incident, police tracked down and arrested the suspect in Mkhuhlu.

Found in position of firearm, ammunition, and suspected stolen cash

During his arrest, he was discovered to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He was also in possession of cash suspected of being stolen.

The firearm is suspected of being used in the fatal shooting.

In addition, police discovered that the man allegedly committed an armed robbery in which cash was taken from a man.

This is said to have occurred shortly after the shooting.

The investigators also determined that the suspect pointed a firearm at another man.

Ballistic testing will be performed on the confiscated firearm to determine any possible links to other crimes committed elsewhere.

As the investigation continues, more charges may be filed against the suspect.

Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has strongly condemned the fatal shooting of the victim while praising the members for their efforts in apprehending the suspects and recovering the firearm and ammunition.

Manamela also expressed concern about incidents of this nature occurring at liquor stores.
