Mamelodi Sundowns star Thembinkosi Lorch opens up on Kaizer Chiefs ‘dream’

Thembinkosi Lorch may have signed for Mamelodi Sundowns from Orlando Pirates, but along the line there was always a Kaizer Chiefs ‘dream’

Thembinkosi Lorch has signed for Mamelodi Sundowns from Orlando Pirates, but he has a strong Kaizer Chiefs connection!

Sundowns were able to complete the shock signing of Lorch on transfer deadline day, blindsiding Pirates fans.

Despite already cruising in the DStv Premiership, Sundowns were the most active side in the January window. The Brazilians already have a nine-point gap on second placed Cape Town City, with three games in hand. Thad did not stop them from pursuing a squad boost ahead of the second half of the season. Of course for them, they also have to factor continental commitments with hopes of a Club FIFA World Cup too.

Now with that on the horizon, Sundowns went and signed the Likes of Zukho MdunyelwaMatias Esquivel. Then when everybody thought that they had strengthened enough, they add Lorch and Tashreeq Matthews. It was the signing of a talisman from their rivals, Pirates, which garnered the most headlines.

Lorch will end his career having played for both Pirates and Sundowns, which might give him a bitter sweet feeling. That is because, according to a KickOff.com he did during his prime at the Buccaneers he revealed he is a Chiefs fan. Furthermore, he went on to reveal that it was always his father’s dream to see him sign for the gold and black side of Soweto. 

Lorch playing for Chiefs was his father’s dream

“It is not like my dad wanted me to sign for Chiefs because the truth of the matter is that Chiefs just didn’t want me at that moment. My dad is a Chiefs fan just like I also supported Chiefs growing up, so he had a dream that I get to play for Chiefs.” Said Lorch to the publication.

It would now appear that any hope of Lorch ever playing for his boyhood club Chiefs, is over. Lorch will be 31 this year and is thought to be on a long-term deal at Sundowns.
