Travelling to Malaysia? You’ll now need to submit a form

Visitors to Malaysia will now need to provide a digital arrival form prior to their arrival in the country. Here’s the details..

Pre-travel form required for Malaysia

Foreigners travelling to Malaysia will now be required to complete and submit a digital arrival form, the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) before they arrive in the country.

According to Travel News, visitors will need to fill out the form on the Immigration Department’s website within the three days before their scheduled arrival in Malaysia. This will also be required for every visit to Malaysia.

Upon arrival, travellers will be asked to present their valid passport and their completed digital arrival card for validation before proceeding through the immigration counter.

The form is free of charge to submit.

Exempt categories

Certain citizens and nations are exempt from this new rule, as it won’t apply to Singaporean passport-holders, Malaysia long-term pass-holders, those with Brunei common identification certificates, and holders of Thai border passes.

VENICE’S NEW ENTRY FEE

In other travel news, visitors planning a trip to the romantic city of Venice will need to be aware of a soon-to-be imposed entry fee.

According to Schengenvisa.info, the Mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, has confirmed that Venice’s authorities have decided to impose a €5 (R100) fee for foreign visitors planning to enter the city.

The new fee will only be implemented as an experiment and only on certain days and the city’s authorities will choose the days which they predict to be busiest, such as holiday weekends and peak Carnival periods.

As per the rules around the entry fee, only daytrippers aged 14 and above who wish to enter the city will be subject to the €5 fee.

Locals, commuters and those with second homes in the city who have paid local property tax, visitors who are staying overnight in the municipality and those participating in sports events, will all be excluded from the entry fee.

The entry fee will be introduced in the spring of 2024 (March 2024).
