Councillor Zahid Badroodien said the team is on-site to assess the extent of the damage.

“The leak is due to an air valve that was vandalised and repairing it will necessitate shutting off the water supply, impacting a significant portion of the southern areas of the city.”

Badroodien said.

Authorities advise residents to store water in advance as work will continue throughout the night and tomorrow.

Badroodien stated that they will assess the situation tomorrow and make water tankers available if needed.

HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE PLANNES WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTIONS

What residents need to know about planned water supply disruptions:

  1. Please kindly store enough water in clean sealed containers for domestic use that will last during this period.
  2. Please keep your taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.
  3. After the supply has been restored, the water may appear discolored or milky for a brief period. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.
  4. lease note that all locations undergoing repairs and upgrades to water and sanitation facilities are considered construction sites and are off-limits to the public.

‘RESPONDING AND REPAIRING THIS VANDALISM IS NECESSARY FOR THE CITY’

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused to all affected residents. We understand that this will impact a large area of the city. However, responding and repairing this vandalism quickly is necessary for the city to do in order to protect our water infrastructure.”

Badroodien said.

Meanwhile in other news, residents in the Greater Evaton Area should note that drinking water from the tap is NOW safe.
