Before the flight took off on 13 February, some passengers reported a foul smell to the flight attendants. However, the attendants did not investigate the cause of the smell and simply asked passengers to turn on their air vents.

About an hour into the 9-hour flight, hundreds of maggots began falling out of an overhead compartment, onto passengers. Dead fish stowed away in carry-on luggage was reportedly the cause of the maggot infestation.

Sky News reports that one of the passengers had indicated that the wriggling larvae were falling onto her head.

ABSOLUTELY GROSS

Speaking to Sky News after the plane had returned to Schiphol airport in Amsterdam, one of the passengers called the incident “absolutely gross”.

Going by the username, Nisha_16 on Reddit, the passenger recounted how the maggots were everywhere.

“My family and I were in the row directly in front of the maggots.

The lady right behind us told the flight attendants the maggots were falling on her head. I turned around and they were wiggling around on the seat.

It was absolutely gross.”
