LOTTO is one of South Africa’s most popular games.

Anyone with a love for the odds can participate in lottery games. Weekly draws, daily games, Sportstake, and Powerball are all part of the fun. Phanda, pusha, play has become a strong slogan that’s associated with LOTTO.

But who is allowed to sell lottery tickets?

Can anyone sign up to be a retailer?

Here’s what to know about selling lottery in South Africa.

LOTTO: Who can sell lottery tickets?

Ithuba National Lottery controls lottery ticket sales and wins.

All ticket sales process through the main system. This is why each ticket or entry has a reference number./

Registered businesses may sell lottery tickets, but must sign up as a LOTTO retailer first. Retailers are lottery sellers, who have registered with Ithuba.

Lottery sellers can apply on the website.

Just fill in your information, and they’ll get back to you.

Want to be a lottery retailer?

There’s a special LOTTO helpline for retailers.

A retailer is anyone who sells lottery tickets. Retailers must be registered, and must complete Expression of Interest forms first. Once you’ve been approved, others can buy lottery tickets from you.

“Phanda, pusha, play” is the lottery’s famous slogan.

Older players might remember another famed line, which told people to ‘tata ma chance’ in the name of national lottery luck.
