Ithuba National Lottery has warned about potential lottery winner scams on its website.

Lottery players have been warned against messages that claim someone has won the lottery. According to information, the National Lottery will never contact you via SMS – and never ask for your personal details via email – if you have really won the LOTTO.

Here’s how to stay clear of lottery scams, and how to spot if you’ve really won something.

Got a LOTTO SMS?

The National Lottery has warned against responding to SMSes and emails that claim lottery wins.

According to LOTTO, wins are never announced via SMS or email.

Smaller amount(s) can be collected at a retailer with your ticket, while larger amounts can be collected from an Ithuba National Lottery regional office. Banking app players will have wins deposited automatically in most instances, while larger amounts still require you to contact the lottery.

But messages that claim you’ve won the lottery are scams!
