Residents in Blairgowrie, Randburg have become concerned about the presence of grass taking root in local potholes.

Concerns are mounting among residents of Blairgowrie, Randburg regarding the deterioration of their roads.
Potholes have become a daily eyesore in the neighbourhood, and pose safety risks for both drivers and pedestrians.
As the holes continue to emerge, of particular concern is a sizable one on Holland Avenue. This pothole has gained attention due to the presence of grass growing in it.

Residents feel the presence of grass suggests prolonged neglect. Additionally, a nearby pothole has been inadequately filled.
“This [Holland avenue] pothole has been open for quite a while,” noted a local Blairgowrie resident.
“There is another one down the road. That was the first one that opened up last year when we had the big rains, and this was a smaller hole.”
“As they closed that one, this one opened up and has been open for a long while.”
Pothole humour
A photo was taken of another pothole with grass growing in it just down the road from Holland avenue, in Susman Avenue.
That photo was taken at the beginning of January 2024. The hole was also ironically dressed with Christmas decorations.
In response, ward 102 councillor, Lucinda Haman, says that residents should follow proper procedure in reporting potholes to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).
“There are over 178 reinstatements and hundreds of potholes that JRA need to attend to,” Haman said.
“My inspector has sent through lists to JRA … nobody from Holland [Avenue] has reported this to me. There is a process residents need to follow.”
